Rookie Blue might be a hit show in Canada, but its future in the United States could be uncertain.

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee implied that the network is gearing up to end the series on the network, Montreal Gazette revealed Wednesday.

When asked about the direction the show is headed Tuesday during a TV critics summer press tour, Lee made it clear that they are now "more about finishing" the show.

This would be a little shocking considering the show is in its fifth season and the ratings haven't necessarily been struggling. The series snagged the number 2 spot in its slot and had 4.9 million viewers. It came just after Big Brother of CBS.

Lee later set the record straight and said it isn't up to ABC when it comes to keeping the show on in the states.

"We love Rookie Blue. We'd like to do more. It's really up to the production company whether they can."

If Rookie Blue does not survive in the United States, it would follow the pattern of several other Canadian series that were cancelled such as Saving Home and Flashpoint. Still, other shows that originated in Canada like Degrassi: The Next Generation are still a huge hit here.

A spokesperson for Shaw also praised Rookie Blue for its success.

"We love Rookie Blue and are thrilled with its performance every season. We are in talks for more, but no final decision has been mae about future episodes beyond the 22 already ordered, 11 of which are running this summer."

In the meantime, Rookie Blue airs Thursdays at 10/9c on ABC.
