Lafayette (Nelsan Ellis) and James (Nathan Parsons) got extremely close on last night's True Blood after plenty of episodes of sexual tension. Now, Parsons is speaking out about why the storyline is so important for the show and viewers.

When Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) ignored James once again, he found himself intimately with Lafayette. Jessica ended up walking in on them and promptly broke up with James.

"The line is drawn after this episode. Now we'll start to see more of Lafayette and l together, and Jessica has another thing she's going to start dealing with," Parsons told The Hollywood Reporter about the relationship.

Parsons also said how important he thought it was to tell this story about Lafayette and James, especially since he didn't think True Blood had covered the physical side as much before.

"This story is important and should be told and needs to be shared. It's a story that's being told all over the place, and TV doesn't pay enough attention to it," Parsons said. "The 'Do I love this guy or love this girl?' and "Is this right or is this wrong?" becomes more important than the act itself, and that I think was really well done by the writer [Craig Chester] and Howard [Deutch] and Nelsan and myself."

The role was also a challenge for Parsons, but he said working with Ellis helped him enormously. "He's brilliant, just the way that he plays around with the scenes, with the words -- he's so free when he's in that character."

True Blood airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
