During a press junket for The Expendables 3, Lerner told Collider on Monday that the all-female cast project was in the works with a script being written now.

"We are working on the script. We've got lots of ideas about who's going to be the action movie star. We plan to start shooting at the beginning of next year. And that's all I can say about this movie right now," Lerner said.

Final 'Expendables 3' Trailer Offers One Last Tease Of Massive Action

The casting is unclear as of right now, but Collider points out a few names that they could consider including Katee Sackhoff, Tatiana Maslany, Zoe Bell, Michelle Rodriguez, Sigourney Weaver, Linda Hamilton, Lucy Lawless, Uma Thurman and Angelina Jolie as a few possibilities.

The log line for the proposed feature follows an elite group of highly trained female mercenaries are brought together for a covert hostage rescue mission. Once they are behind enemy lines, the women discover that they will also need to topple an evil dictator bent on world domination. It becomes clear there is no such thing as the right man for the job. The Expendabelles is the ultimate story of female empowerment and kick-ass teamwork.

Having veteran actors like Weaver, Thurman, and even Jolie would make for an action-packed movie that could rival the Expendables movies.

The Expendables 3 is set to open in theaters on August 15.
