E! News reported on Thursday that the breakup was "mutual, but they still care very deeply for each other." They also plan to remain friends.

The couple, who started dating in 2011, was very open about their love for each other and often posted adorable photos together on social media. Sparks was even featured in Derulo's romantic video for Marry Me.

"It is about Jordin, actually, and it's talking about how amazing it will be when I get down on one knee and it will be the greatest moment of my life," Derulo told E! News about the song last year. "You can't fake anything because true love is true love, and that's the basis of our relationship."

This year, however, Derulo admitted that there was a lot pressure to marry Sparks, especially after he released the ballad.

"I wrote the song because of the pressure and then I made the pressure worse because people just listen to the chorus and all they hear is 'Will you marry me?' so they're like 'Oh you're proposing' I'm like 'No.' In the song I'm saying when the time is right, I'm saying we have the rest of our lives. So the perfect time is on its way," Derulo told MTV.

Sparks and Derulo's relationship heated up after the Talk Dirty suffered an almost fatal accident in 2012. That year he broke his vertebrae and Sparks stood by him throughout his whole recovery. He's previously said it was the moment he realized she was "the one."
