As Derek Jeter's epic retirement gets closer, rumors continue to swirl on whether he will pop the question to his longtime girlfriend Hannah Davis once his career as a professional baseball player is officially over.

The 40-year-old New York Yankees player is said to be preparing to ask Davis, 24, to marry him once he is retired. But an insider told Hollywood Life Saturday that the speculation is not valid.

"Derek is not getting engaged or married anytime soon. He is only thinking about processing that his career is over."

"He is looking forward to taking the next few months to be out of the spotlight and he is looking to ring in the new year by relaxing and maybe getting into businesses like Magic Johnson or Michael Jordan did after their careers ends."

They continued and said that while "he is looking forward to what life has to bring," marriage is not something he is planning for right now.

News of Jeter not ready to settle down despite his retirement could be true considering he resided in somewhat of a bachelor pad in West Village. There are not "any family photos...or any sign of [girlfriend] Hannah Davis," another insider said.

Still, Jeter did reveal that it is possible for him to start a family once he retires.

 "I was too selfish to be able to juggle a family and kids. But I look forward to it happening. I just know that I . . . couldn't have done it while I was playing."

The two have been a couple for more than a year.
