Carrie Underwood is about to start a family of her own and recently the country singer released an essay about one family which has deeply inspired her.

In honor of Veterans Day on Tuesday, Underwood published an essay on Monday with TIME about a military family which forever changed the way she sings See You Again.

"I've met countless brave souls that sacrifice their time and effort to keep us safe here at home," explained the singer. "And I've met many spouses and children of those who don't make it back home. Those are the stories that I could never and would never want to forget."

Underwood continued to explain how she received a lot of feedback from military families after See You Again came out. One story in particular, however, really touched the singer's heart.

A mother and daughter had purchased tickets for one of Underwood's concert with the aim of attending after the girl's father had returned from overseas.

"Tragically, he never made it," noted Underwood. "We got word of what had happened and were told that they still wanted to come to the show. Music is a powerful thing… it can take one's mind a few steps away from terrible things that are weighing heavily on the heart."

Underwood arranged to meet with the mother and daughter and heard in their own words what they were going through. "I am still amazed at how strong they both were," said the singer. "They might have found a little comfort in one of my songs, but because of their story and the many others like it that I have heard since, I'll never sing that song the same way again."

The country music artist has always worked hard to generate music that means something to her, as well as to other people. Her husband Mike Fisher, who plays in the NHL for the Nashville Predators, certainly believes this.

The music video for Underwood's Something In The Water premièred on Wednesday, and in anticipation of the release Fisher posted a statement on Twitter saying just how proud he is of his wife's music.

Underwood and Fisher will be starting their own family soon, with their first child due in spring 2015.
