It turns out NBA star Dwight Howard is being investigated for allegedly assaulting his son after all.

Royce Reed Speaks Out After Claiming Dwight Howard Abused Their Son 'Case Was Not Closed'

While the Department of Children and Families (DCF) in Florida denied any case regarding the Houston Rockets player, it looks like the incident actually occurred in Georgia instead.

According to TMZ early Tuesday morning, Cobb County Police Department in Georgia is investigating Howard under claims from the mother, former Basketball Wives Miami star Royce Reed, that he hit their son Braylon, 6, with a belt buckle.

And it seems like Georgia has had an issue with getting information from the DCF in its neighboring state. Georgia requested files from Florida, which was very hesitant in turning them over. What actually brought about a transition in the case was a law officer in Georgia seeing a story on TMZ Sports that detailed doctors' reports of Howard's actions against his son.

A Georgia authority told the entertainment news site, "People who were not so forthcoming before today [Monday] have been. Since then, the department has spoken to several people, but still has not decided to bring the incident "to the top of the list."

Despite the new information, Howard's legal team still denies that he abused his son, and said that Reed is simply "shopping her baseless allegations" with Georgia after DCF decided her account did not contain any "merit."

However, TMZ also reports that DCF actually did see validity in Reed's claims, but found there was not enough proof to move forward. Howard's attorney is confident Georgia authorities will come to the same decision.

"The truth is on our side."
