Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Rebekah (Claire Holt) got a one-on-one talk about baby Hope's future this week in the latest clip released for The CW's The Originals.

Elijah & Finn At Odds On 'The Originals'

The new clip, released by E! on Tuesday, showed the siblings sitting together in a diner after months apart.

Rocking his baby niece, Elijah felt a unique moment of levity as he looked down at the little face of Hope. "I can't imagine the joy of spending every day with her," he admitted to his sister.

Rebekah told him how wonderful it's been raising Hope, noting that "It feels so human" to be with her. Even in gazing fondly at the child, however, there is a touch of profound sadness upon Rebekah's face.

"Some would argue the most human of experiences," agreed Elijah.

"I know I have to give her back to Hayley when the time is right," his sister continued, "But she's made me realize how much I want that child of my own that I know I can't have."

Rebekah's desperation for a normal "human" life is more prominent in this scene than ever, suggesting that she might be more prone to taking their mother up on her offer to be returned to a human existence. Such a decision would pin her against Elijah and Klaus (Joseph Morgan), bringing an end to the short-lived truce that Hope had brought them.

Rebekah fled New Orleans in pursuit of her own life during Season 1, but only after struggling to maintain a relationship with Klaus. He had trouble forgiving his sister for betraying him to their father Mikael (Sebastian Roche) decades before, and though he let her live there was a weight between them. Rebekah did return, however, at the end of the season to hide Hope for her parents, Klaus and Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin).

For Hope's sake alone Rebekah might hesitate in giving up her vampire status, though it's uncertain whether looking after her niece will be worth sacrificing a family of her own.

The Originals continues on The CW with its second season Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
