During a new interview, 22-year-old Lovato, who entered into a rehab facility in 2013 for "emotional and physical issues," admitted she nearly returned for more treatment after she began to "obsess" over food.

"It's been difficult. I almost went back to rehab for my eating disorder last summer," Lovato told Fitness Magazine earlier this week. "I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. Wilmer [Valderrama, her boyfriend] noticed and called me out on it, which was a relief."

After dating musician Trace Cyrus in 2009, and Joe Jonas in 2010, Lovato began dating 34-year-old Valderrama. In the early stages of their relationship, the pair had an on-again, off-again romance. However, since 2013, they have been very much on. There have even been rumors that Lovato and Valderrama could be engaged.

Once Valderrama called Lovato for obsessing over food, Lovato got herself in check, adapting a healthy plan of diet and exercise, which has her more confident than ever.

"I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it," Lovato said. "Now I'm on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It's teaching me portion control."

As for her exercise plan, Lovato said, "Exercising has been so important for my recovery, both physically and mentally. On show days I count my concert as a workout, but on my off days I try to work out once in the morning and again at night."
