While James Hawes would likely recommend that audiences watch the whole of Showtime's Penny Dreadful, the director pointed out one episode on Thursday which he considered to be a great choice for the holiday season.

On Thursday Hawes noted on Twitter that some friends would be watching episode 7 for Christmas, which he considered to be "perfect Christmas viewing."

This episode is of course the one in which Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton) and co. attempt to exorcise a demon from Vanessa Ives (Eva Green). Though the Victorian supernatural drama is pretty dark as a whole, this episode was particularly harrowing because of its immersive, brutal and at times seemingly hopeless nature.

Based on the latest trailer (featured below), it looks like the upcoming season intends to be just as devastating. The brief teaser includes a voiceover as Vanessa discusses her very literal demons and images which suggest that she intends to embrace them moving forward.

According to Hawes, production began in Dublin for episode 6 of the show's second season this month. While the cast and crew are currently on break for the holidays, they are set to pickup again on set in January.

Penny Dreadful returns on Showtime for a second season in 2015.
