They knew there was a chance they may not get to come back, but the news that Red Band Society has officially been cancelled hasn't made things any easier on the show's cast.

'Red Band Society' Officially Cancelled

Despite FOX's reported best efforts to try and find a way to keep the show going despite its low ratings, the network has officially pulled the plug on the freshman drama series following the lives of the young patients and the staff who cares for them at Ocean Park Hospital.

FOX reportedly tried re-tooling the series for a summer run before attempting to shop it to other networks, but with no luck, they officially announced the show would end after one season, and that its final episodes would air on Jan. 31 and Feb. 7.

Two members of the show's cast in particular have taken to their social media accounts to share their disappointment that the show was not going to live on for a second season.

"I'm very sad to say that this journey has come to an end. One of the best experiences of my life. #redbandsociety," Dave Annable, who portrayed Dr. McAndrew on the series, tweeted Jan. 14. Ciara Bravo, who portrayed the eating disorder afflicted Emma, also shared her thoughts on the series coming to an end with a heartfelt post featuring a screenshot of her feelings about the show's cancellation.

"Red Band...what a roller coaster. The gratification did not come from being on a network television show but from touching the lives of thousands of fighting teens that finally had something they could really relate to. This creative project had a lot of love behind it, a passion for what it stood for, and a need to tell the story in the right way, which are all lessons I learned from. Acting is more than just being a character, it is representing a collection of people, large or small, in the right light, and to do that takes real passion. That passion came from you guys and I thank you all for that. Thank you for the best six months a girl could ask for," she wrote.

Fans can catch the final episodes of the series at 9 p.m. on Jan. 31 on FOX, with the final two airing back-to-back beginning at 8 p.m. on Feb. 7.
