Their first romantic date and night alone together is something they both patiently waited for, but there could still be something big that will stand in the way of Patrick (Jason Thompson) and Sam (Kelly Monaco) taking their relationship to the next level on General Hospital.

The couple's budding romance was initially halted a bit more when Sam became obsessed with proving that Jake (Billy Miller) was the one who held her hostage during the shoot-out which allowed Faison (Anders Hove) to escape from the police. However, the couple managed to work past the problems and issues facing them, and are now ready to take full advantage of a night alone together.

"I hope I'm not too early," Patrick asks Sam in a preview clip for the Friday, Jan. 16 episode.

"Oh, you're right on time," she replies.

However, the date night could still be ruined-because even though no one believes it could be true, Sam is actually right about Jake-even though he himself doesn't know for sure if he was the one responsible for the crime. He has been conditioned to take orders from Helena (Constance Towers), and after he completes them, he is supposed to forget they happened-which is exactly what happened when he held Sam hostage.

Now however, he has been conditioned to complete a new assignment for Helena, one which protects from Sam continually nosing around and possibly realizing Helena's evil plot-and he has been ordered to kill her.

There could be an element that saves Sam from being shot however, after Jake heads down to the docks-and encounters Elizabeth (Rebeca Herbst).

"Jake, is that you?" she asks him in the clip.

General Hospital airs Monday-Friday at 3 p.m. on ABC.
