Despite the Maximoff sibling's X-men paternity, Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Quicksilver's (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) canonical mutant backgrounds will not be addressed when they join with the Avengers. Nor, however, will they take on the mantel of the Inhumans.

Instead, the lightning fast Pietro and his reality warping sister will receive their powers courtesy of Loki's staff, according to io9.

The revelation comes from Marvel's newly released Avengers: Age of Ultron Prelude - This Scepter'd Isle, during which readers find out that Baron Von Strucker (Thomas Kretschmann) does indeed have Loki's scepter, and he is using it to unlock hidden powers with in his captives.

Considering the timing of Agents of SHIELD's Inhumans introduction, it comes as a bit of a shock to discover that Marvel won't jump at the first chance it gets to place the new mythology on the big screen. On the other hand, keeping the Inhumans momentarily confined to SHIELD gives the ABC series the chance to sculpt a brand new MCU chapter all on its own.
