Chang spoke with Philly about the crime drama FX series, which is based on some of Elmore Leonard's works of literature. On Sunday, the site shared what the TV writer and producer had to say.

"Elmore's tone is very, very unique: the mix of humor and depth; the cool characters rendered in ways that make them sympathetic without overt earnestness or treacle; the underlying sense of fun without losing the insight into the characters or theme," Chang shared.

"It's a delicate balance that's very easily tipped too far in one direction," he added.

Chang began working on the FX show in 2013 during the fourth season.

He dished on how the episodes are put together in script format.

"Sometime by sections, sometimes it's by character or storyline," Chang revealed.

"In some rare cases, it's by scenes. But every script and every version is read by all the writers, giving suggestions and recommendations at all stages, so it's still very much a communal effort," he further explained.

The episode airing tonight, Feb. 17, called Sounding, Chang worked on as a writer. The preview is below.

Justified is airing now on FX at 10 p.m. ET on Tuesdays.
