True Detective's second season may be shaping up to be very different from how creator Nic Pizzolatto had initially envisioned it.

Vince Vaughn Dishes On 'Rich' New Season Of 'True Detective'

A number of photos which have poured in from set the over the last few weeks show a lot of filming in the streets of Los Angeles. As the fan site True Detective Rumors noted on Monday, this seems to be going against Pizzolatto's original idea of focusing on more suburban areas of California. It's uncertain if these changes have come organically through Pizolatto's writing process, or if the network requested the alternations be made for other reasons.

Big city action would definitely help the series to develop a new tone and style for its second season, having focused on the brooding and reflective outskirts of society during season 1.

Vince Vaughn Might Be Working Alone On 'True Detective' This Season

It's also possible that the show will only include a few big city scenes this season and production in Los Angeles is simply harder for showrunners to hide than production in quieter parts of the state.

This season the crime drama is set to focus on the events surrounding the murder of a corrupt city manager in California. The program will star Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides), and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh).

Pizzolatto has written all of the new episodes, with Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin set to direct the premiere.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
