Fans Already Weighing In On Casting For Season 3 Of 'True Detective'

Murphy was confirmed for the show's premiere by Deadline on Dec. 5, though the announcement did not include a character description.

On Dec. 11 Irish Central revealed that the actor, known for villainous roles on FX's Sons of Anarchy and CBS' Criminal Minds, would in fact appear throughout True Detective's second season.

So why has his role remained so mysterious? And does the fact that he's headed for Wales mean he's officially wrapped for the HBO drama?

HBO has yet to offer up a release date or an official trailer for the upcoming installment, which means for now fans might just have to wait and speculate.

Known stars for the show's upcoming season include Vince Vaughn (career criminal Frank Semyon), Colin Farrell (Detective Ray Velcoro), Rachel McAdams (Detective Ani Bezzerides) and Taylor Kitsch (Officer Paul Woodrugh). Creator Nic Pizzolatto has panned all the episodes, with Fast and Furious alum Justin Lin directing the premiere.

True Detective will return on HBO for a second season mid-2015.
