Thompson disclosed that about a little more than a year ago the network invited him, the series creator Adam Reed and producer Casey Willis to New York City for Super Bowl XLVIII.

Thompson explained that they were in a group with other talent, producers and directors for the network waiting to be escorted by bus to the stadium in New Jersey.

"As we all sat on the bus, people started to get a little antsy and a little bored," he stated, adding, "Matthew Rhys from The Americans decided to graciously entertain us all with a real life story from his homeland of Wales."

Rhys told the group on the bus about the Free Wales Army from the 1960s.

"They hated the English and attempted to bomb critical pieces of British infrastructure. The problem was they were a little bit bumbling and only succeeded in blowing themselves up. Twice," he revealed.

Rhys managed to stir a lot of laughter to the point where Thompson dished Rhys "had us all laughing our a---- off," which led to Reed promising the story Rhys just told on the bus would become an Archer script that he would get to star in.

"A big nod to The Americans" was even given in the episode.

Archer airs Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
