The promotional trailers for the final episode of the sixth season of The Vampire Diaries are making fans question if Elena (Nina Dobrev) will die or live a long life as a human away from Mystic Falls.

Both promos that released last week after the second to last episode of the season aired are leaning more toward the idea of Elena's death being near since she is seen in a hospital bed and then it even looks like her friends are saying their goodbyes by channeling her in their minds one final time each.

Elena's unfortunate condition comes after Kai (Chris Wood) crashed Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) and Ric's (Matt Davis) wedding.

On Friday, the series creator Julie Plec weighed in by chatting with The Hollywood Reporter about the promotional footage for the big season finale episode that is called I'm Thinking of You All the While.

Plec shared the promos are "very powerful," but she won't totally tell if Elena lives or dies. Fans are just going to have to tune in to find out.

"There's a lot more going on in the episode than if you just take those trailers at face value," she dished.

So, tune in this Thursday, May 14, to find out if Elena will live or die.
