Just a few weeks ago viewers of Grey's Anatomy became devastated and struck with grief as Dr. Derek "McDreamy" Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey) tragically died on the series.

Now it seems like the viewers are more at peace with the loss of Derek since the series creator Shonda Rhimes has given them closure in the Season 11 finale that aired Thursday night.

In the video below, a clip from the finale is shown of Dr. Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) listening to the last voicemail Derek ever left Dr. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) since Meredith gave it to Amelia to hopefully have her sister-in-law obtain closure from losing her brother. Dr. Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) is right by Amelia's side, which seems to allude that these two will in fact be a couple moving forward.

Viewers were able to hear Derek's final words and see him one last time, looking happy instead of brain dead in a hospital bed.

"Hey, it's me. I'm on the ferry. I just wanted to say, God, I wish you could see this. Weather's classic Seattle. The water is so blue. It may be the most perfect ferryboat ride I've ever had in my life. We're gonna do this a lot more when I get home, by the way, you, me, and the family. We're just gonna take a day and ride the ferryboat, all day if we want. I love you, Meredith. I know I just left, and I'm not even at the airport yet, but I just wanted to say I love you. I love our family. And we're gonna keep doing this. I'll see you when I get home. I love you," Derek said in the voicemail.

Rhimes even tweeted about the scene Thursday night.

"Goodbye, my birthday twin," she said in reference to Dempsey since they both were born on January 13, but in different years, adding, "Can't believe this is his last scene I'll ever see in my editing room."

Fans had mixed reactions to the final goodbye to Derek. One Twitter user said with shock, "wow that was actually so sweet of you," while most others seemed unsatisfied and disgusted with Rhimes for even tweeting about the scene.
