Shannen Doherty received disturbing tweets from a fan on Twitter recently and handled it like a professional.

The former "Beverly Hills 90120" actress followed up on tweets from an unidentifed female who wrote that "she has a gun and (was) going to shoot herself."

Doherty, who is known to not take situations very lightly, then decided to call 911 in Westhampton County, New Jersey, where the fan lived in an attempt to save her life. The call was made last month and the audio was recently leaked.

In the audio of the emergency call obtained by TMZ, the 41-year-old explained to a 911 dispatcher that someone in the New Jersey area mentioned threats to commit suicide while revealing she is a celebrity.

"This is going to sound incredibly strange, as it does to me as well...My name is Shannen Doherty and I'm an actress" said the "Charmed" star. "I'm on Twitter, sadly, and there is a girl that is threatening to shoot herself and she lives somewhere over there."

"I have no idea the correct response, I am completely untrained to deal with someone threatening suicide especially over Twitter," she continued. "She has stated she has a gun and she is going to shoot herself. "

According to the actress, her own security team suggested that she block the women's messages out of concern that she might be a threat.

"She is definitely not fully mentally capable at this point," she added. "My security guys told me to block her because she is super aggressive and was very erratic - so they wanted me to block her - but I haven't done it because I felt bad for her to be honest."

Despite warnings and advice from her security team, Doherty admitted the situation frightened her. "I'm now sitting here freaking out, being held hostage and I can't do anything" she confessed.

The call ended on a light note- before it ended with the dispatcher confessing to Doherty that his co-workers were fans of the actress.

"All my co-workers can't believe who I am on the phone with," the operator told her.

"Well tell them hi and say thank you," Doherty replied.

Local authorities took Doherty's call very seriously and were able to track down the fan. It turned out to be a 27-year-old woman who was still alive and not suicidal.

Shannen later thanked the 911 dispatcher and the Westampton Police Department on Twitter.

"Thank you to the Westampton police department for being diligent and so reassuring," she wrote.
