Ricky Martin turned to Twitter to congratulate President Barack Obama for his stand on gay marriage.

The "Evita" star tweeted:

"I applaud President @barackobama for affirming that ALL Americans should enjoy equal rights. Historic! I will be a very proud host on Monday," he said.

Later he wrote the same statement in Spanish.

Martin was not the only one to applaud Obama: Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, Alec Baldwin and Justin Timberlake also said they agree with Obama on their Twitter accounts.

Martin will host a fundraising event on May 14 at the Rubin Museum of Art in New York City to support the re-election of Obama.

The Latin singer has said before he was proud to support Obama for been an exceptionally strong advocate for the Latino and LGBT communities, among other things.
