The Notebook was a movie which became an instant iconic romance story and helped propel the careers of both Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams-but things could have gone very differently according to a recently resurfaced interview about the film.

Is Eva Mendes Seeking Full Custody Of Esmeralda Amid Rumors Of A Split From Ryan Gosling?

According to The Daily Beast, who found the interview (which was reposted on Youtube in 2013), the movie could have originally seen Gosling with a very different co-star-his former fellow Mickey Mouse Club co-star Britney Spears!

In the interview, Gosling reveals that he did in fact screen test with Spears, and he admitted she was good during her audition.

Is Ryan Gosling Cheating With Emma Stone?

"I did, yeah. I hadn't seen her really since she was about 12-we were both 12-so she's grown up, but she was really good, actually," he said. "She did a really nice job. We were 12, I don't remember much from when I was 12, but yeah, no, she did an excellent job, actually. That was cool."

McAdams also spoke up about almost not being cast in the role, saying she thought the singer would have also done a great job, though she was glad she was the one who won it in the end.

"I'm sure Britney would have done a great job!" she said. "I'm sure it would have been a totally different movie, but yeah, I just heard that the other day. I had no idea! I was very fortunate. I was sort of at the end of the line, and I know they'd sort of done a cross-country trip-Nick and Ryan together-looking for the girl, and I dort of squeaked in there."

Fans of the finished film are likely glad to hear that Spears wound up not getting the role though-since the film eventually spurred what was known a McGosling for three years afterwards.
