The movie "Prosecuting Casey Anthony" about the case that captivated and shocked the nation when Anthony was acquitted of killing her 2-year-old daughter Caylee in July 2011, aired Saturday night on Lifetime.

The film, starring Rob Lowe (Parks & Recreation), Elizabeth Mitchell (Revolution), Oscar Nuñez (The Office) and Virginia Welch as Anthony has received mixed reviews from critics.

"None of this ever threatens to break into an interesting character study or story or examination of ideas. Still, given that Anthony was acquitted - rightly or wrongly, but not arbitrarily and certainly legally - the fact the film does no better a job of convicting her than did the state of Florida, speaks to its integrity, in a way," wrote the LA Times.

"The movie is shot with a stylistic blankness that does no harm to a compelling legal narrative, and the acting - like Lowe's - is unmannered, believable and to the point," wrote People Magazine.

"A surprisingly revisionist take on one of the most controversial trials of the decade -- from someone (Ashton) you'd least expect revisionism from. Nancy Grace, meanwhile, will hate "Prosecuting Casey Anthony," wrote Newsday.

The film, based on the book "Imperfect Justice: Prosecuting Casey Anthony" by prosecutor Jeff Ashton, tells the story through the eyes of Ashton, analyzing how the prosecutors put the case together, what they got wrong and what convinced him of Casey Anthony's guilt.

Viewers' reactions to the movie included people expressing sadness at the case as they remembered the tragic fate of the toddler, while it revived anger in others.

"Watching this movie hurts my heart...so sad," wrote Ulonda Michelle Cobb on Facebook.

"This movie is ruff as hell...but very good :(" wrote Ciera Gentry Chapman.

"If any of the jury is watching, this is for you...You are a bunch of freaking idiots and should be ashamed!!!" Facebook user Ronnie Wise wrote.

"I want to watch this movie but I want to make sure that, that murderous b---h does not profit from it," user Mary Ostfeld Salamone wrote.

A jury of seven women and five men in Orlando found the 25-year-old Anthony not guilty of murder.

The movie included in-depth information about the case and the accused and behind-the-scenes of both the investigation into Caylee's tragic death and the ensuing trial.

"Prosecuting Casey Anthony" was produced by Fox television and was executive produced by Lowe, Alison Cross, Jean Abounader (Lifetime's "We Have Your Husband", "Held Hostage") and Michelle Manning ("The Breakfast Club", "Sixteen Candles"). Peter Werner ("Justified", "Medium") directs the screenplay by Alison Cross ("Rizzoli & Isles", "Raising the Bar").
