'Entourage' Movie Confirmed, Release Date & Spoilers: Warner Bros. Gives the Green Light
Warner Bros. on Wednesday gave the green light to a film adaptation of HBO's "Entourage," a series that ended in 2011 after making its cast members household names in the entertainment industry.
The series began in 2004 and revolved around four best friends from Queens, N.Y., who moved together to Hollywood to try to make it big. Vincent Chase (played by Adrian Grenier) was an actor, his best friend/manager was Eric Murphy (Kevin Connolly), the assistant was Salvatore "Turtle" Murphy (Jerry Ferrara) and his brother was Johnny "Drama" Chase (Kevin Dillon).
Series creator Doug Ellin will direct the show's film adaptation, according to Deadline Hollywood, based on a screenplay he wrote. The show's executive producer, Mark Wahlberg, will be a part of the movie process as well.
As time of publication, no start date for the movie has been released.
In the show's last episode, Vincent's agent Ari Gold (played by Jeremy Piven) quit his business to appease his wife and move with her to Italy, only to get a phone call that he was offered a position to run a major film studio - his dream job. Eric got back together with Sloane, who is pregnant with their child, and Vincent got engaged.
Ellin spoke to Hollyscoop about the script in September, hinting at what audiences can expect to see.
"There are interesting developments about Ari as a studio head, and that's still the first page for me," Ellin said, explaining the script picks up six months after the show's finale. "But foremost is the friendship between the guys who are still hanging out and going to fun parties, and it continues with the same characters."
An "Entourage" movie has been in talks of happening even before the series ended. Wahlberg told MTV News in June 2010 that he wanted to bring the gang of friends to the big screen.
"I just think we can make a great movie. I think people always wanted [it] and have complained that the episodes are too short - they've always wanted more," he said. "I think we're going to do it. We just have to end strong, and this season is, by far, the best season so far."
In September 2012, Wahlberg said production for the film could start in the spring and that the movie is "going to get back to the basics, kind of like the beginning of the series."
"We want the guys to get back to just being guys ... I think they were all weighed down by these strong women towards the end of the series," he added. "So we are going to get them going crazy. Everyone wants to see them get nuts again."
