One of the most respected actors in Hollywood, Morgan Freeman boarded a plane that veered off the runway after an emergency landing on Saturday night, ET reports.

According to Entertainment Tonight, it was confirmed that the 78-year-old actor was on skidded off the runway into a field after making an emergency landing, the Tunica, Mississippi Sheriff's Department.

On the side note, the Shawshank Redemption star together with his pilot was reportedly the only two persons on board the plane. But thankfully, no injuries were reported and no one was transported to the hospital.

Meanwhile, following the incident Freeman released a statement to ET thanking everyone for their prayers and concerns.

"I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety,” he said.

"I was on my plane on the way to Texas to shoot a segment for The Story of God," said Freeman. "Sometimes things don't go as planned and a tire blew on take-off which caused other problems. But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch. I cannot say the same about my plane."

Apparently, the actor is also coping from a tragic incident of his step-daughter who was stabbed to death in New York last August.

Report say, E'Dena Hines was found lying in the street in the Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights at about 3 a.m, where she was suffering from multiple wounds in her torso. The 33-year-old was taken to Harlem Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.

"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," Freeman said in a statement to ET. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."
