Judd Thanks Rove After Political Ad Slamming Her Views [VIDEO]
Ashley Judd thanked Senator McConnell and Karl Rove for releasing an ad aimed at her as she considers running against the Republican candidate for a senate position for Kentucky in 2014. The 44-year-old's publicist stated to media: "Ashley thanks Senator McConnell, Karl Rove, and their negative allies for all the attention as she considers her future political plans, although a decision hasn't been made yet."
Judd's response comes after an online ad by Karl Rove's American Crossroads hit the web, slamming the actress' political views. The ad, titled Ashley's Story, was released Wednesday. It ad highlighted Judd's democratic views, and her support for Obama's health care plan.
The ad says: "Her own grandmother says she's a Hollywood liberal, but isn't that what we need? Ashley Judd, an Obama-following, radical Hollywood liberal who's right at home here in Tennessee. I mean Kentucky."
American Crossroads reportedly spent $10,000 on the ad, which will run in Kentucky for two weeks.
Judd lives in Tennessee but grew up and studied in Kentucky. She recently split with race car driver Dario Franchitti, with whom she has been married to for ten years. The former couple released a joint statement on Jan. 29 regarding their split. "We have mutually decided to end our marriage. We'll always be family and continue to cherish our relationship based on the special love, integrity, and respect we have always enjoyed."
Judd and Franchitti announced their engagement in 1999 and tied the knot in a private ceremony in Scotland in 2001. Judd's famous country singer sister, Wynona, served as maid of honor for the ceremony and Franchitti's brother Mario was the best man.
Judd was allegedly looking into what would be required of her if she did want to pursue a career in politics. She reportedly met with New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in December about the possible bid and started conducting opposition research.
"She is doing all the things that a serious candidate exploring a race should do," Rep. John Yarmuth told Politico about Judd's political activities. "I there are a lot of people, and I was one of them, who wanted to let her know that her candidacy would be an exciting prospect for us. That's what I wanted her to know. A lot of the labor unions, they were telling me that too."
