At 57, Bruce Willis has reached the pinnacle of his career. The actor sat down with GQ Magazine for a one-on-one interview to look back on his broad repertoire of films from sci-fi thrillers to action flicks. In the March issue, the established actor discloses what cured his stuttering problem, how he maintains a healthy level of sobriety, and why he thinks he never won an Academy Award.

In the interview, Willis reveals that he had a terrible stuttering ailment when he was young. It wasn’t until he started acting that he learned how to manage it.

“The Cub Scout years, I had a terrible stutter. But then I did some theater somewhere, probably in high school. And when I memorized words, I didn’t stutter, which was just miraculous. That was the beginning of the gradual dispelling of my stutter. I thought I was handicapped. I couldn’t talk at all. I still stutter around some new people now."

During the 80s, which was a high time for Willis, the actor scored a deal with Seagram’s wine cooler and had to sing in cutesy commercials in support of alcohol. While appearing confident and cool on camera, the actor privately battled a serious addiction. Willis opened up about his drinking in that he does it now in moderation.

“I had been sober [for a while]. But once I realized that I wasn’t gonna run myself off the pier of life with alcohol, drinking vodka out of the bottle every day… I have wine now, mostly when I eat. “

Though his work in Moonlighting, and the Die Hard series were each wildly popular, the actor was never able to score an Oscar Award.

“I don’t think about it too much. It just always seemed whimsical to me, to think about it. You don’t get an Oscar for comedy, and you don’t get it for shooting people. You get it for novelty, for being fascinating to watch in some character role."

On Valentine’s Day, Bruce Willis fans get to see what the action star does best as the series continues with the latest installment, Good Day to Die Hard.
