Heidi Montag opened up on the tumultuous relationship she had with her mother and how that's been changing.

The reality star has been on the Lifetime series The Mother/Daughter Experiment: Celebrity Edition with her mom, Darlene Egelhoff, as they go through the complications of their lives while trying to work things out.

In Wednesday's report from Bustle, Montag dished on the changes that she and Egelhoff are dealing with on the series in a way that makes it better from how it was before.

"I think it's been a life-changing experiment and experience for my mom and I," the blonde beauty said. "We were able to talk about things that we would normally just sweep under the rug in order to move forward. I think that it was really important and necessary for us to have these heartfelt, deep conversations to be able to move forward once and for all. I am really thankful for this opportunity and I think it's been really good for us."

Montag has starred in several other reality shows like Celebrity Wife Swap and The Hills, which gave some curiosity on why she chose to do more reality TV. It was something she wasn't too enthusiastic about until she realized the benefits that would come with this particular chance.

"This one was a great opportunity for my mom and I to get some healing and to have some conversations and things to move forward from our past, which was existing on reality TV," Montag explained. "At first I said no because I didn't want anything to affect our relationship. Then, we really talked about it and found out more about the therapist and 495 is such a great production company, as well, so I knew that I would be in good hands."
