Getting back into form for starring as the titular character in Jason Bourne, was definitely not a cake walk for Matt Damon.

In a recent interview, the actor revealed that training for the fifth installment of the Bourne series was very gruelling and her probably wouldn't do it again.

Speaking to the BBC, Damon emphasized the big age difference from when he starred in the first Bourne and now.

"For the first Bourne movie I was 29 and I thought that was hard work getting into shape," he said. "Now I'm 45 and it's just brutal. We shot this bare-knuckle fighting scene on my 45th birthday and it was a lot of work to get there.I was on a very strict diet and spent a lot of time in the gym just making myself miserable."

Then he hinted at the fact that he might not want to go through such a tough training regimen again, even if another Bourne film demanded it.

"So maybe for the next one Jason Bourne will be fat and happy and old!" he said.

Damon also spoke about director Paul Greengrass and him reuniting for the film after about two decades, since The Bourne Ultimatum (2007). Neither were involved in the last Bourne film, The Bourne Legacy (2012). The actor added that the motivation to work on another Bourne film came from the fans consistently asking for it.

"It's been one of those things that we wanted to do for a long time because we love the character," he said. "For both Paul and me it's been a huge part of our careers and the success of those movies has allowed us to do a lot of other stuff. Just walking down the street people will come up to both of us independently and constantly ask if there is going to be another another one, and that's really the reason we did it--that people wanted to see it.

Jason Bourne will release on July 29, 2016.
