While there's no doubt that Taylor Swift has had one of the best years of her life with mega radio hits like "Bad Blood," "Wildest Dreams" and "Blank Space," John Mayer's career has been lukewarm in comparison.

And that's probably why he's been rumored to be desperate to get back together again with the chart topper, even though she is currently linked to Calvin Harris. Still, that hasn't stopped Mayer from trying to talk to her at a party recently even though Swift did everything she could do avoid him.

According to Naughty Gossip on Sunday, Swift and Mayer broke up over six years ago but apparently they almost had an awkward run-in while celebrating Gigi Hadid's 21st birthday in Los Angeles.

One source told the site, "John was so desperate to speak to Taylor after all this time. Gigi Hadid's birthday bash, which was a star-studded event which included the likes of Hailey Baldwin, the Kardashian-Jenner clan, and of course, Taylor Swift and her girl squad and John Mayer. No one knew who invited him. All night he was trying to corner Taylor. Thank god she had her girl squad with her to act as security. He is desperate."

If that weren't enough, rumor has it that the only reason why Mayer showed up to the party was because he was so eager to talk to Swift.

The insider added, "He kept trying to get her into a conversation, but Taylor wasn't interested. All she wanted to do was have fun with the girls and dance. She know he only is interested in her again to get publicity. Everyone in Hollywood knows John only dates famous girls to get into the press. Just ask Jessica Simpson and Jennifer Aniston."
