It looks like Rihanna threw some pretty subtle shade at her ex, Chris Brown.

TMZ caught up with island beauty as she was coming out of Giorgio Baldi restaurant in Santa Monica Thursday night. She walked a few steps behind her bodyguard, Frank, who told the reporter to back away from their car.

Interestingly enough, while Rihanna came to the reporter’s defense, she might have slammed her ex, Chris Brown, in the process.

“Calm down Frank! He’s not beating me!” she said.

She seemed to think whatever was going on was pretty funny because she couldn’t help but laugh as she got into the car.

Brown’s 2009 assault against Rihanna has become a topic of conversation more frequently recently.

Part of that is because he spoke out about like never before in the teaser for his highly anticipated upcoming documentary: Welcome To My Life.

In the premiere, he reveals that he felt like a “monster” after he attacked Rihanna during Grammy weekend of 2009.

He candidly spoke on his thoughts of even wanting to take his own life.

His mother, Joyce, added, that it was “worst” day of both of their lives.

He confessed that the turmoil caused him to turn to drugs and “get high” on a regular basis.

“I wasn’t sleeping. I didn’t eat. I was just getting high,” he said.
