The mother of one of the Orlando victims has opened up on the tragic attack.

Last weekend, a gunman reportedly entered Pulse gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida where he shot fire killing 49 people and injuring 53 others. Christine Leinonen's son Christopher was one of the victims that night when he was at the club with his boyfriend.

Leinonen opened up about her son on Today on Tuesday where she had just received word that Christopher didn't make it.

"My heart wanted him to be alive," Leinonen said. "He is always going to be alive in my heart, but I had already been rationalizing that he had to have passed away."

Christopher's mother added that her son "died on the floor of the club."

"If I had known that my son was in the club laying on the floor, I would have gone in myself with no equipment and brought him on my back and carried him the two blocks to the trauma center," she said.

Leinonen had waited at an emergency room to see if her son was in there.

She gave more details on her emotions and how much she's grieving over this devastating situation.

"I can deal with anger," she said. "Anger is easy, that's easy. I just- the sadness, you can't deal with the sadness. Sadness is overwhelming."

The site mentioned that Christopher's two friends were in the bathroom when the shooting was happening and were able to get to safety. They didn't see him come out of the club, but they saw his boyfriend being carried out.

This tragedy has embarked upon a gripping moment for not just the LGBT community, but for the entire population.
