It is no secret that the Apple Watch did not really make as much of an impression on consumers as the tech giant had hoped. Indeed, the device is only speculated to have shipped 12 million devices since it was announced last year, a far cry from the iPhone, which shipped far more in its first year.

Considering that the Apple Watch was allegedly the tech giant's bet for the next big revolutionary device in the tech world, its current alleged sales figures and its reception, which has been lukewarm at most, could almost be considered as a flop. Couple this with the fact that the device is available for only $49 at Best Buy when purchased with an iPhone 6S, and this notion becomes all but proven.

Then again, it seems like it is far too early to abandon hope for Apple's failed experiment. In the company's recent WWDC 2016, Apple unveiled WatchOS3, which is set to improve the performance of the device greatly, something that users of the smartwatch have been clamoring for since the Apple Watch started shipping to consumers last year.

Also, the Apple Watch 2, which seems to be scheduled for release together with the iPhone 7, could also help aid the tech giant's rather ailing smartwatch efforts. Considering that the Apple Watch is speculated to follow the same upgrade cycle as the iPhone, however, analysts are alleging that this year's smartwatch would simply be an "S" upgrade, which means that the device would look almost the same as the original watch, only with better internals.

Nevertheless, rumors have been consistently emerging which allege that the Apple Watch 2 would include a number of features that are currently not included in the first generation Apple Watch. Among these features are a FaceTime camera, a far bigger battery and 3G/4G capabilities. With these new features, the Apple Watch 2 is speculated to be a device that is far more independent, and hence far more practical, than its predecessor.

For now, at least, the original Apple Watch is available at really low prices, for the Sports variation, at least.
