The Xbox One S is a beautiful machine. Clad in white with black accents, its look is pretty much the antithesis of the original Xbox One, which is rather bulky. As much as the machine is a beautiful piece of technology, however, Xbox fans are split over the new console's worth, with some stating that the Xbox One S is not a very good deal for Xbox fans at all.

Of course, for those who are thinking of taking the plunge into Microsoft's gaming ecosystem, the Xbox One S is a no-brainer. After all, the tech giant is set to cease manufacturing the original Xbox One soon, with the Xbox One S set to be the entry-level, companion device to next year's Xbox Scorpio, which Microsoft claims would be a most capable gaming machine ever built.

Plus, the price of the console, which is set at $299 for the base model with 500GB storage, is pretty much a steal when compared to the classic Xbox One's similar $299 price. Couple this with the Xbox One S' 4K Blu-Ray playback capability and the device could definitely sell itself without any problems.

For avid Xbox fans, however, this would not be the case. After all, just like the PlayStation 2 Slim during the 2000's, the Xbox One S is essentially the same console in a more streamlined, more attractive body. Sadly, the Xbox One S' advantages over its predecessor are rather skin deep.

Though the Xbox One S has the added capability to support High Dynamic Range (HDR), the results it gives to games' graphics are rather marginal compared to their original renders in the original Xbox One.

Plus, it should also be noted that the Xbox One S has completely done away with the Kinect. While the Kinect has seen a massive decline in popularity as of late, there are still a significant number of Xbox fans that rely on the Kinect to play their favorite games. Plus, the little camera/microphone is also pretty useful when binge-watching Netflix, or when doing Skype conferences through a smart TV.

Though the Kinect could still be connected to the Xbox One S, the fact that the device would require an adapter to work with the updated console might be a pretty notable turn-off for avid Xbox fans.

Indeed, the Xbox One S has a place in the market. Apart from being the cheapest 4K Blu-Ray player on the market, it is also a pretty capable gaming console. However, for those who already own an Xbox One, the upgrades of the Xbox One S are quite too little to warrant a full upgrade.
