While Nintendo has been extremely tight-lipped about the features of its upcoming console, the enigmatic NX, the rumor mill has been very busy trying to unearth possible features about the gaming veteran's new flagship console. Recently, rumors have emerged that the Nintendo NX would receive some form of cross-platform compatibility with Nintendo's mobile titles, such as Miitomo, as well as Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing, which are slated to be released soon.

The latest rumors were first reported by The Wall Street Journal, where an unnamed source told the publication that the Nintendo NX will not only be a hybrid handheld/console, it will also be fully compatible with the gaming giant's current and upcoming lineup of mobile titles.

While the speculations about the NX's cross-platform support for Nintendo's mobile games could not be confirmed as of writing, the premise of being able to play the best of the gaming giant's mobile titles in the NX is very interesting. Miitomo's Miis, for example, could be used by gamers to unlock new game content by playing with their characters on the go through the NX.

If Nintendo does follow this direction, the company's mobile titles, especially the hyper-successful Pokemon GO, could very well lead to a notable boost in both Nintendo's console and mobile games business.

Recent leaks have shown that the Nintendo NX would be a hybrid device that acts as both a handheld and as a home console. While the recent leaks could not be confirmed as of writing, speculations are high that Nintendo's upcoming machine would feature a high-end gaming tablet with detachable controllers, as well as a dedicated handheld device. The NX is also rumored to use cartridges once more, with the system abandoning discs altogether.

First impressions about the NX have largely been positive, however, with Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stating that he had already seen the device, and that he was extremely impressed.

The Nintendo NX is set to be unveiled in March 2017.
