Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie's split has reportedly been traumatizing for their six kids.

According to a new report, Pitt and Jolie's children, including Maddox, 15, Pax, 12, Zahara, 11, Shiloh, 10, and Vivienne and Knox, 8, have been struggling with the adjustment into their now-split family, and Pitt isn't doing much better.

"It's been a traumatic situation," a source told People Magazine, but Jolie "did what she felt she had to do to protect the safety of the kids."

Jolie filed for divorce on Sept. 19 after two years of marriage leaving Pitt "absolutely devastated and heartbroken." According to the report, the 52-year-old actor is upset both by his split from Jolie, 41, and by the events leading up to their split being wrongfully portrayed."

Shortly after Jolie's divorce filing was made public, a report hit the web which suggested Pitt had been violent with Maddox on a plane. Now, he feels the reprot will jeopardize his family's ability to heal from the traumatic split.

"They didn't leave the rental house for days. It was hard for all of them. They are used to more activities and more entertainment so it's difficult for them to just stay at the house. The younger kids don't understand what's going on," the source continued.

"Brad loves his children more than anything in this world, and they matter more than anything else to him. He will do whatever it takes to be with them, now and always," the source added.
