Kate Hudson is the latest celebrity to announce she will be joining Zach Braff's upcoming Kickstarter-financed project, the film Wish I Were Here.

The actress will play Braff's wife in the film.

Wish I Was Here already has a number of notable actors counted among the cast. In addition to Braff and Hudson, Anna Kendrick, Donald Faison and Big Bang Theory star Jim Parsons will appear in the film. Mandy Patinkin and Josh Gad joined the cast as well.

Braff launched his own campaign on the Kickstarter last month following the successful backing for the Veronica Mars movie project by the crowd-funded site. Braff sought funding so he would not have to make any creative sacrifices. Braff's goal to collect $2 million in 30 days was met only four days after launching the campaign.

Last week, Braff received support from film financing company Worldview Entertainment.

Wish I Was Here sparked controversy when Braff revealed that he was funding the movie through Kickstarter. Since Braff is associated with a hit television series (he starred in Scrubs) and several feature films, many thought he shouldn't ask his fans to finance his project. Braff publicly addressed the situation during a conversation with the folks behind the documentary KickStarted.

He revealed why he decided to use Kickstarter to get his movie off the ground.

"This isn't a money-making endeavor," Braff said. "Making a tiny art film is not where people go to to make money. This is a passion project."

Braff will direct and star in Wish I Was Here. In the film, he portrays a struggling actor in his thirties who reconnects with his family as he seeks purpose in life. He wrote the script with his brother Adam Braff.

Braff made his mark on the big screen writing, directing and starring in the 2004 film Garden State.
