She won the Cecil B. DeMille award for her long and stories career in film, and despite having very little physical voice, Meryl Streep stunned many when she accepted the honor at the Golden Globes, and intead of speaking about herself, used the platform to instead discuss the media, bullying, and President-Elect Donald Trump.

Using the fact that the Globes are given by the Hollywood Foreign Press, Streep discussed her feelings about the incoming President, and some of the things she has taken issue with about him, without directly addressing his name in the speech.

"There was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. Nut because it was good; there was nothing good about it. But it was effective and it did its job....It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter. Someone he ranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back... this instinct to humiliate, when it's modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody's life, because it kinda gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others we all love," she said.

Almost immediately, many took to social media to praise Streep's speech, with both celebrities and others all applauding her for her powerful words:

However, after Trump learned of her speech, he quickly took to social media as well, referring to Streep (who has the most Oscar nominations of any actor in history) as "overrated" in the process:

Supporters have also since taken to social media to criticize, though some are still defending Streep's speech as well:
