If any reality TV romance was meant to be, The Bachelorette's Ali Fedotowsky's engagement to Roberto Martinez seemed written in the stars. But fans of the TV couple were crushed when Fedotowsky's rep announced the pair had broken up in November.

The bachelorette has finally broken her silence over the split by sharing her side of the story with E! News.

Asked when it became clear the relationship wasn't working, Fedotowsky says she doesn't think "there ever was just one moment" when the couple realized they shouldn't get married. Instead, she recalls feelings of unhappiness mixed with the desire to be loyal to her fans.

"We were really trying to make it work, and realizing it wasn't getting better," she recalls. "We were unhappy more than we were happy, and something needed to change ... I didn't want to let people down. I felt anger from my followers, fans ... The pressure was to make sure we did what would make both of us happy."

Fedotowsky is now focusing on her career as a correspondent for NBC's late night travel show 1st Look, premiering April 14.

"For the first time in my life," she says, "I'm happy with me and who I am and being single."
