The eighth official installment in "The Fast and the Furious" franchise, titled "The Fate of the Furious," is now just a few weeks away from its premiere. Despite some fan and critic's opinion about the franchise being too drawn out, producers of the movie apparently still have a lot of movies planned in the coming years.

The franchise itself has continually been capitalizing on the popularity of the first few movies and it has thus far succeeded in reviving the excitement of the original film's premise. There has been a total of seven movies that were released in the past fifteen years, and it seems like there may be a couple more planned to follow in the next few years.

As reported by Screen Rant, Vin Diesel officially revealed to the world that the upcoming movie will actually be the start of a brand new trilogy that will result in two additional movies to be produced. The actor also mentioned that they have brought in some brand new characters that will be shaping the plot of the next few films.

The actor revealed all of this in front of fans at the recently held Universal CinemaCon 2017 event, as reported by Deadline. Universal has of course already previously announced that there will, in fact, be two additional movies to be produced in the coming years. However, Diesel's announcement just reveals that "The Fate of the Furious" will indeed be laying the groundwork for the plot of the next films that will follow.

As for the new characters that Diesel mentioned, two of the big-name newcomers to the franchise include Charlize Theron and Helen Mirren. Theron could very well be the main antagonist in the new trilogy, but some fans believe that she could turn and become part of Dom's crew. Whatever the case may be, fans will soon find out when the movie hits theaters on April 14.
