2013 Tony Awards Host Neil Patrick Harris Talks 'Bigger Than Last Year' 67th Annual Event & Final Preparations [VIDEO]
Neil Patrick Harris returns for a fourth time to host the Tony Awards, airing Sunday on CBS, and leading up to the annual event he talked about how he hopes the night will unfold.
The actor agreed to host the gig in September of 2012, in the midst of filming his TV series How I Met Your Mother, promoting The Smurfs 2 (in theaters July) and going home at the end of the day to raise twin 2-year-olds with partner David Burtka.
However, Harris is unfazed and "hoping it's the supersized Tonys - lots of children and animals," adding, "What could possibly go wrong?"
After a couple of years of being held at the Beacon Theatre, the Broadway awards ceremony returns to the Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Harris said the bigger space allows "for a bigger production value in the actual show" as well as the chance to invite more people than in the past.
"There's lots of great actors this year, and I'm really looking forward to the larger space," Harris said, according to Entertainment Weekly. "At the Beacon, there was no usable wing space or Rockettes - very devoid of Rockettes."
The leading nominees this year include Kinky Boots (up for 13 awards), Matilda the Musical (12) and Pippin (10). For a full list of the night's nominees, click here.
Talking about what viewers can expect to see on Sunday when the awards ceremony airs, Harris confirmed to CBS News "it'll be bigger than last year."
"Without spoiling anything, we have some fun surprises throughout the show really," he added. "But beyond what I do, the show is really about getting to watch all of the shows that are currently performing on the Big White Way. And so uh [catches himself]...the Big White Way? It's something like that. It's big, it's great and it's white. So we're excited to be watching all of Broadway this year."
The Audemars Piguet-sponsored red carpet arrivals begin at 6 p.m. EST. Watch the celebrities arrive via a free live stream at TonyAwards.com.
The 67th annual Tony Awards will broadcast live from radio City Music Hall on Sunday June 9 at 8 p.m. EST/7 p.m. Central.
