We could now know why iconic singer Janet Jackson had such an emotional breakdown during her world tour earlier this month.

The singer quietly battled an abusive relationship with her now ex-husband Wissam Al Mana, according to Jackson’s brother, Randy Jackson.

Janet went through “verbal abuse” and felt like “a prisoner in her own home,” when she was married to Mana, Randy told People Tuesday.

Mana works as a Qatari businessman in London. He and Janet just welcomed a son, Eissa, earlier this year.

“Enough is enough,” Randy said as he revealed what was going on behind closed doors. “There’s a lot of pain. Janet’s been through a lot with her divorce. I’ve been through a lot, we all have.”

While Janet was able to escape the marriage, she and Al Mana went through an ugly custody battle.

“It was quite an abusive situation,” Randy added. “It came on later in the relationship, verbal abuse and being [made to feel like] a prisoner in her own home. No pregnant woman needs to go through being called a b**** everyday. There were things like that. That’s what she went through.”

She confirmed the breakup via Twitter in April. In the video clip, she said, “Yes, I separated from my husband. We are in court now and the rest is in God’s hands.”

He told the publication that even though Janet didn’t suffer physical abuse, he felt like he needed to help her and stand by her side.

“I told her, ‘You’ve got to move in with me or I’m going to go over there and there’s gonna be hell.’ She was really pissed off. I told her, ‘I don’t care anymore. I’m tired of it. It’s too much.’”

Their mother, Katherine Jackson, and sister Rebbie Jackson, also went out to London to help Janet.

Randy said he attempted to keep the news from their parents but they and the whole family found out about Janet’s struggle.

He confirmed that Janet’s breakdown in Houston was connected to her issues with Al Mana.

“What you saw in Houston, it was her situation coming out, what she’s been going through. The abuse is still going on. She has custody and he of course allowed her to bring the baby on tour, but it’s constant harassment. This tour almost didn’t happen, but by the grace of God we’re here and we’re very prayerful.”

He ended with revealing why he decided to speak out about Janet’s secret.

“It’s not about anger or vengeance. [Janet] wants Eissa to have a mother and a father… We don’t like to put our business out there but sometimes transparency helps you. The devil thrives in darkness. I’m just here supporting her through this time.”

As for Al Mana, he has released a statement in response to Randy’s claims.

“Mr. Al Mana is not going to dignify these particular and deeply hurtful allegations with a response. The breakdown of his marriage to Janet Jackson is a cause of great sadness to Mr. Al Mana, and it is the wellbeing and privacy of their son, Eissa, that remains his sole focus.”
