Actress Ellen Page kicked off the New Year with a life-changing announcement. Page revealed on Instagram that she married dancer and choreographer Emma Portner.

The Celebratory Post

Many of Page's fans were delighted to see her post o Instagram on Jan. 3. It featured the X-Men star flashing a gold wedding band alongside her wife, New York dance teacher Emma Portner.

Page and Portner's ring photo was also accompanied by the couple's first two pictures as wife and wife. The Instagram post received over 200,000 likes.

The actress also shared the news on Twitter where her feed was flooded with good wishes from fans and celebrities. 

Actress Lucy Lawless simply tweeted "Mazel Tov" while Emmy Rossum simply stated "Congratulations." 

"Marriage was the making of me. I wish you endless happiness," Whose Line Is It Anyway? comedian Colin Mochrie added. 

Page and Portner also received well-wishes from international organizations such as GLAAD and PETA.

Ellen Page's Rising Career

Since she was 10 years old, Page has held numerous jobs in the entertainment industry. Page made her debut in the TV series Pit Pony but made her silver screen debut in the 2005 film Hard Candy.  

While several media outlets took notice of Page's talent, it was director Jason Reitman and screenwriter Diablo Cody that decided to take a chance on Page. Reitman cast her as the title role in the runaway film Juno.

The film's success helped Page become a household name. Page received both a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination for her impeccable performance in Juno. Despite losing both awards, her generation acknowledged Page's hard work and gave her the 2007 Teen Choice Award for Choice Movie: Breakout Female.

Marvel Comics aficionados got to know Page when she portrayed the phasing mutant Kitty Pryde in X-Men: The Last Stand. Initially, Page did not want to play the famous character but X-Men: The Last Stand director Brett Ratner persuaded her to take the role.

In 2014, Page bravely came out as a lesbian at the Human Rights Campaign's Time to THRIVE Conference.

"I am here today because I am gay and maybe because I can make a difference," said Page. "To help others have an easier and more hopeful time. Regardless, for me, I feel a personal obligation and a social responsibility."

Page told the audience that she was tired of lying about her sexuality and revealed that both her mental health and spirit suffered.

Recently, Page lent her voice to help launch the "Time's Up" Campaign. The actress joined an elite group of entertainment powerhouses such as Natalie Portman, Shondra Rimes, Meryl Streep, and Oprah Winfrey. The campaign is dedicated to giving women of the workforce the resources to tackle sexual harassment in the workplace.
