Rob Delaney reached out to fellow comedian Patton Oswalt to thank him. Delaney believes Oswalt set a good example for dealing with grief.

Returning The Stage

The Catastrophe star and co-creator of the hit show reached out to Oswalt on Twitter to thank him for inspiring his return to the stand-up comedy stage. Delaney was en route to a gig when he took to social media to voice his sentiments. This is one of the few gigs he accepted since the death of his young son back in January.

The actor and comedian offered his thanks to Oswalt, who lost his wife suddenly in 2016 and has made his return to live comedy in the subsequent years, for helping him see the way.

Delaney shared that even though he found it difficult to get back out there, he knew he could do it thanks to Oswalt's example.

Shared Losses

Delaney's two-year-old son had a public battle with cancer that ended about a year after he was first diagnosed. The Catastrophe star and his wife were devastated, sharing the news with fans in an emotional Facebook post.

Oswalt, meanwhile, was married to true crime writer Michelle McNamara, when she shockingly passed away. He wrote a personal essay reflecting on the loss the following August, promising he'd return to comedy.

His comedy special, Patton Oswalt: Annihilation hit Netflix a year later, receiving positive reviews across the board. The comedian responded to Delaney's tweet on Thursday with a sweet message of encouragement.

Catching A Killer

McNamara wrote predominantly about unsolved murder cases, focusing towards the end of her life on the infamous Golden State Killer, who was active throughout the seventies and eighties.

The author was working on a book about the case when she died, which Oswalt completed. I'll Be Gone in the Dark was published early this year and quickly made it to the bestseller list.

As a result of its publication, Oswalt believes, authorities decided to go through the evidence and police reports. Earlier this week, former cop Joseph James DeAngelo, 72, was arrested.

Oswalt was thrilled with the news, posting an emotional video to Instagram to mark the occasion. McNamara made it her mission to catch the notorious killer and rapist, responsible for 12 murders and 50 rapes throughout California. A DNA match was what connected cops to DeAngelo.
