Almost two decades after its release, there are still many things that fans didn't know about what went down on the set of "Mean Girls." Luckily, Lindsay Lohan has spilled some behind-the-scenes moments.

The actress appeared in Vogue Magazine's "Life in Looks" feature on their YouTube channel, where celebrities review their careers through their most memorable fashion moments.

While browsing through the pages of a thick book containing her photographs, Lohan stumbled upon her iconic pink "Mean Girls" outfit and recalled how excited she was to wear those looks on set.

When she was doing the fittings for the comedy film, the actress said she was thrilled to wear skirts and dress more "girly."

However, she got relieved when she got the role of Cady, a teenager who had just come to America from Africa.

Her character didn't require many fashionable looks at first, making the actress jealous as she was only wearing sneakers.

Later on, she revealed a shocking secret about her getting the role that is "really unknown by a lot of people."

Lohan said she wanted to play Regina George because she had just come off of "Freaky Friday" and didn't want to play a "pretty normal girl" again.

"I wanted to have a different kind of role than just the damaged teenager again," she added.

However, director Mark Waters and writer Tina Fey insisted that she play Cady Heron.

"They're like 'no, no, no, you're the lovable one, you have to play Cady.' I was so eager to get into the transitional part of 'okay, let's get to the pretty part of Cady.' It's just such a lovable movie," she explained. (via ET Online)

Despite not getting the role she initially wanted, Lindsay Lohan has sealed her portrayal of the character as one of the most memorable roles of all time.

"Mean Girls" became a success and has garnered a cult following throughout the years.

According to Forbes, the film hit theaters in 2004 and earned a shocking $24.4 million over its debut weekend.

Aside from positive reviews from critics, the movie earned $129 million globally off a $17 million budget.
