Meghan Markle's father, Thomas Markle, said he is fortunate to still be alive after facing a terrifying health issue.

Days after he was admitted to a hospital in Mexico, Thomas is said to have been discharged from the medical facility and is already on the mend. The major stroke caused him to lose his ability to speak, but it did not affect his life as a whole.

Thus, the 77-year-old estranged father said he was somehow lucky after the near-death experience.

Thomas recently had an interview with Daily Mail on Sunday, where he communicated through a felt tip pen and a whiteboard. He took his chance to thank everyone, especially his doctors and nurses, who worked hard to save his life.

"I have been deeply moved by loving messages I've received from all over the work. People have been so kind. I can't speak right now, but I am working hard and will thank people properly when I can," he said. "I have lots of hard work to do and will do it."

Thomas noted that he would have a long road to regain his speech. While doing so, he already thanked everyone who cares and loves him.

He then confirmed his non-attendance at Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee festivities and sent his wishes to the monarch instead.

What Happened to Thomas Markle?

His new interview came after photos of the former television lighting director wearing an oxygen mask while being transported by an ambulance in Tijuana went viral.

Reports said that he was rushed to a hospital across the border in Chula Vista, California, around 9:30 p.m. local time last week. At that time, he could not speak to the paramedics anymore to inform them of what had happened. So he had to write down his symptoms instead.

His 57-year-old daughter, Samantha Markle, released a statement to Daily Mail where she blamed Meghan Markle for causing the event to happen.

"We ask for privacy for the family, for his health and wellbeing. He just needs peace and rest. It's a travesty how much he's been tortured and how much he's had to go through thanks to my sister's disregard for the past few years. That is unforgivable," she added.

Samantha tweeted in 2018 that Meghan should also pay tribute to her father and warned her that it is on the duchess if their father dies.
