People have been dressing to the nines to go see Minions: The Rise of Gru, and movie theaters are not thrilled with this finery.

Memes of the Minions have been covering the internet prior to the release of the film Minions: The Rise of Gru. Memes have shown the minions superimposed into other films, television shows, and posters. This has caused a certain elevated obsession around the film, leading all the way to the current craze.

The phrase #Gentleminions has been trending on TikTok. People, specifically those in generation Gen-Z, have been dressing up in suits in their finest attire to attend the film and go crazy when seeing the minions on the screen.

Now, while Universal Pictures has come out saying that they approve of this trend, movie theaters around the country have come out saying they are not too fond of it. The dressing-up has started to upset parents and young children, who are going to see the kids movie. Theaters have started canceling screenings and banning people who are dressed up from seeing the film.

Yet still, Universal is on board. They tweeted out earlier this week, "to everyone showing up to Minions in suits: we see you and we love you."

Minions: The Rise of Gru is now playing in theaters.
