Kevin Federline consented to an explosive interview concerning ex-wife Britney Spears' alleged estrangement from their sons because he and the boys are concerned about the superstar's mental health, and not because they want anything from the star or want to start any form of drama.

Britney Spears' Ex-Husband, Kids Worried

"Kevin did the interview because he and the boys are upset. They worry that everyone is completely ignoring the fact that Britney is [battling mental issues], which is not a secret," one source with knowledge of the "real" situation told Page Six.

A source close to Spears, meanwhile, told Page Six that suggestions Federline conducted the interview out of concern for the singer are just unbeleivable and even unacceptable.

This week, Federline, Spears' second husband and the father of her sons Preston, 16, and Jayden, 15, stepped out and claimed that while loving their mother, their sons did not want to see the singer.

He gave an interview to the Daily Mail, with excerpts also airing on ITV News, and then shared two video clips from four years ago of Spears, 40, arguing with her children on Instagram, prompting the singer's lawyers to accuse Federline of "violating" the celebrity's privacy.

Federline, a former backup dancer who was married to Spears from 2004 to 2007, posted the videos with the message, "I can not sit back and let my sons be accused in this way after what they've been through. As much as it hurts us, we decided as a family to post these videos. This isn't even the worst of it. The lies have to stop. I hope our kids grow up to be better than this."

Federline a Loser, User, Spears' Ex-BF Says

The insider added that uploading the videos was not meant to make her appear wicked or unpleasant, but rather to remind people that she has a serious mental illness, and that Kevin and his sons are concerned that it is getting untreated.

Meanwhile, one of Spears's ex-boyfriends is outraged by Federline's actions and informed Page Six that the ex-husband is not in a position to speak.

"Kevin's a nice guy, but he's a loser," the ex-boyfriend said. "It was really hard for Britney and I to be out with them and Britney knew she was paying them all this money and they were free to live their lives and spend her money as they saw fit while she was under a conservatorship and a small allowance.
