The filmmaker, a woman from Fairfield Australia named Maria Tran, was inspired to make the film by Jackie Chan - whom she worked with on 2017's Bleeding Steel.
Tran has said that she is very excited to bring Asian Austrailian stories to the forefront: She wanted to make this film because, she felt, so often, stories are taken from her culture and misrepresented by those outside of it - even when they mean well.
