"Honey Boy" star Shia LaBeouf recalls his mother's last moments and shares gratitude for one of the "greatest gifts" she left him with amidst the actor's redemption journey.

Veteran actor Shia Saide LaBeouf's mother, Shayna Saide, reportedly died at the age of 80, according to his statement to The Hollywood Reporter. LaBeouf stated that he was present during her final moments in a Los Angeles hospital when she died of heart failure and emotionally recalled the moment during the interview.

"My mother was full of fear in her last moments: asking the doctor what this tube was and what that machine did. She was frantic," LaBeouf explained. "She was deeply interested in God and spirituality her whole life, but she didn't know him. Hence her last moments."

The 'Greatest Gift' She Left Behind

According to LaBeouf, his mother, whom he described as a "good girl" who is "loved by many and known by too few", had been a big influence in his new-found faith. 

"Her greatest gift to me was to promote, in her dying, the necessity of a relationship with God. Not an interest, not just a belief, but a relationship built on proof as tangible as a hug," he shared. "Her last gift to me was the ultimate persuasion for faith.

Recently, the 36 year old actor had converted to Catholicism following his role as priest Francesco Forgione in the upcoming biopic film, "Padre Pio". A part of his preparation for the role included staying at a seminary in San Lorenzo.

LaBeouf was born to a Jewish mother and Christian father. His coversion to Catholicism is a big leap from his initial statement in 2007, wherein he expressed that religion "never made sense" to him.

Renewed Relationship With His Mother

Following the veteran actor's baby steps on the road to redemption, LaBeouf recently revealed in an episode of "Bishop Barron Presents" that he had reached out to his mother, as he expressed that she had been "embarassed beyond all imagination" at his troubling behavior the past years. 

In 2020, LaBeouf had been charged with misdemeanor battery and petty theft. Recently, the 36 year old actor had been raising controversial headlines following his ex-girlfriend, FKA Twigs, filing a sexual assault lawsuit against him. LaBeouf and singer FKA Twigs is set to meet in court on April 17, 2023
